Richard James Ortz, 71, of Cabot, passed away at home Wednesday, October 7, 2026, following a brief battle with Pancreatic cancer. He was born January 30, 1955 in Freeport, son of the late Robert and Elsie (Rusz) Ortz. Richard was a Heavy Equipment Operator in the Agriculture industry. Rick loved gardening, carpentry and above all else his family and friends. His amiability was unparalleled, sparking conversations and creating bonds with everyone he met. Rick especially loved his grandkids and his dogs.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Pamela “Pam” (Porter) Ortz; his sons, Justin (Julie) Ortz and Jacob Ortz; grandchildren Makayla, Scarlett and Isabelle Ortz. Also surviving is a brother Robert (Mary) Ortz.
